The Danish Health Authority has introduced a new proposal to prevent malnourishment and unplanned weight loss among elderly medical patients.

The new proposal includes eight new recommendations, which are meant to assist the already existing initiatives put in place by local municipalities and regions, in order to help elderly medical patients receive the right  nutrition.

The  proposal is based on the 2016 National Action Plan for The Elderly Medical Patient, which includes an initiative that focuses on nutrition as malnutrition can have serious consequences for the elderly’s physical, mental and social functional capacity, well-being and quality of life. The new recommendations have been  issued in collaboration with a group of professionals within the field of nutrition.
