On February 20, 2017, New Hvidovre Hospital turned the first sod for its major expansion project. The new construction, with a size of 32.000 m2, is designed by Aarhus Arkitekterne and Schmidt Hammer Lassen. The extension will transform the hospital by giving it one single entrance, thus making it easier for patients and citizens to get an overview of the hospital as soon as they arrive.
The expansion means that patients will meet specialists from many different departments as soon as they walk through the entrance, where a new emergency department is also situated.
The hospital will also receive a new cardiology ward, a maternity ward, and a paediatric ward containing a neonatal ward.
The projected costs amount to €228.7 million ($240.5 million). The extension is expected to be operational by spring 2020.
