Introducing the FIRST & Fastest Wire-free body-worn intelligent electrode, that detects an epileptic seizure based on EMG. A large population of epilepsy patients still has seizures despite being on medication. Today bedside alarms are the standard of care of monitoring devices for these patients, alongside personalized monitoring in daytimes by either parents and/or care givers. Personalized monitoring is very costly for the society and clearly gives restriction daily for the individual. With the alarm system from IctalCare, patients can now be monitored 24/7 in and outside their home and with the integrated GPS/GSM you always know the location of the patient with a seizure. Additional the system will collect a history file creating a diary for any professional dialog & contact.
It is a 3 component system with an A-Unit (reusable), a sensor (reusable) and an electrode (disposable). On the upper arm is the electrode with the Sensor placed. The A-Unit (see next picture) is receiving the alarm from “the arm” and will give a clear alarm when a seizure starts (tonic-clonic seizures). The A-Unit if preferred can also send a message to a cell phone alarming of a seizure and show location.
The alarm system uses surface measurements of the muscle activity (sEMG), a known technology and methodology used for many years, in a new context and constellation. The known technologies we have combined with wireless communication, a patent pending revolutionary new electronic technology platform and a patent pending intelligent algorithm that detect tonic-clonic seizures. The known technology makes our system very reliable. The new context, the use of intelligent algorithms and the fact that it is wireless make the system portable and reliable. Our product gives parents of children with epilepsy, caregivers and patients themselves new freedom and peace of mind.
The new innovative alarm system is being introduced into the market autumn 2013. The system has numerous clinical data available and a multi-center confirmative study are being planned alongside the introduction. For any details, please feel free to contact us at any time!
