For the first time ever, Healthcare Denmark was part of the Sustainability Summit NYC and hosted a high-level event on sustainability in healthcare together with the Consulate General of Denmark in New York!

The Sustainability Summit NYC was a three-day conference, which took place in New York City on 18-20 September, during the 78th UN General Assembly. It encompassed a multitude of agendas, stakeholders, and themes, all focused on the green transition and the acceleration of sustainable solutions to address the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

Fueled by public-private partnerships, the summit facilitated three days of dialogue, panel discussions and networking opportunities with high-level speakers, government officials, UN representatives, NGOs, and numerous companies. This included an exclusive high-level event, hosted by Healthcare Denmark, where the Danish Minister of the Interior and Health delivered the opening remarks, sharing the ambitious targets of the Danish government and commitment to lowering emissions. A stellar panel shared their views on the transition to “a greener healthcare sector” and exchanged views on how to catalyse positive change and chart a course towards a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive healthcare sector.

Key take aways from the session: 1) collaboration between healthcare and industry – only a joint effort can take us forward, 2) the need for global standards on calculating scope 3 emissions for the healthcare sector and industry alike, and 3) better financing options for low- and middle-income countries. Finally, the need for political leadership and high climate ambitions was emphasized by all participants.

Healthcare Denmark would like to thank all partners for a great time in NYC – we look forward to continuing the conversation around sustainable healthcare.
