From 2025 to 2035, the number of people in Denmark aged 80 and over is expected to increase by almost 40%. Today, at least one in five Danes lives with one or more chronic diseases. This publication shows how Denmark is responding, from the 2024 Healthcare Reform and new national chronic care packages to digital solutions, prevention and public-private innovation. We hope it will provide valuable insights into the Danish approach and inspire international dialogue, mutual learning and better care for people living with chronic diseases.

Danish Health Pavilion at CIIE 2026

From 5–10 November, the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), the Embassy of Denmark in China and Healthcare Denmark will bring 12 Danish companies together at the Danish Health Pavilion at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.

CIIE will serve as the official physical launch platform for Healthcare Denmark’s new publication, Chronic Diseases – How Denmark Manages a Defining Health Challenge. A China-specific insert will connect Danish experiences with Chinese healthcare priorities and provide a starting point for further dialogue and collaboration.

“China and Denmark face many of the same fundamental healthcare challenges, including a growing burden of chronic disease and an aging population. CIIE provides an important platform for sharing Danish experiences, learning from China’s development and creating new partnerships around solutions that can improve health at scale,” says Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen, Chair of Healthcare Denmark.

CIIE is one of the world’s largest trade fairs and a high-profile platform for engaging Chinese authorities, hospitals, decision-makers and private-sector stakeholders. With health technology, chronic disease management, prevention and healthy aging high on China’s agenda, the pavilion provides participating companies with opportunities to strengthen relationships and explore new market collaboration.

Developed in close dialogue with participating companies, the pavilion will present a shared Danish story under the theme “Solutions by Denmark – Better health through collaboration.” DI is leading the organization of the pavilion together with the Danish Embassy, while Healthcare Denmark is contributing the overarching healthcare narrative and communication concept.
